QuiltWest 2025 Winners
Congratulations to Lynda Sturm on winning the Bernina Best in Show at QuiltWest 2025 with her amazing ‘Cassandra’s Quilt’. This quilt really needs to be seen in person as the photos do not do it justice. Lynda won 1st Prize in the Mainly Appliqué Amateur category with this quilt, and it was wonderful to see an Amateur (and a new to WAQA quilter) win Best of Show. Lynda said it took 18 months to do the needle turn appliqué and I’m astounded that she could complete all that work so quickly.
Congratulations to Jocelyne Leath on Runner Up Best in Show with her entry Homeless, Hopeless & Forgotten, an amazing quilt that won 1st Prize in the Pictorial Quilts Open category as well as being awarded Best Domestic Machine Quilting. The visual impact of this quilt is quite something at a distance, whilst up close you see the amount of work that went into its creation.
There was a real buzz on the first day of the show, with a great turn out for the prize-giving ceremony and a lot of people wandering through the display of quilts as well as checking out the displays from WAQA groups and The Toodyay Ragbags Quilting Group. QuiltWest runs until Sunday afternoon, so if you did not come on opening day, there is still plenty of time to come and have a look at all the quilts. You can vote for your favourite quilt as that is announced at the end of the show on Sunday afternoon.
Photos of all the prize-winning quilts will be made available on the Galleries of Quilts page on the website over the next few days.
