The final WAQA Workshop for 2025 is on next Sunday 21st September. Run by Kerry Moore and called Do the Twist! This is your chance to learn how to make quilts with depth and dimension and have a unique, eye-catching 3D effect! Kerry gives you the option of three twists that you can use to make anything from a table runner, wall hanging or modern quilt. Spaces are still available and to register email: waqaworkshops@gmail.com. For more information check out brochure on the WAQA website.

The workshop in August had 14 enthusiastic ladies that were fortunate to take part in Jocelyne Leath’s inspiring two-day Portrait Quilt workshop. Participants chose a wide range of subjects, from beloved family members and pets to striking landscapes.

The process began with tracing an enlarged image onto plastic, which was then used as a pattern for fabric collage. Jocelyne’s renowned attention to detail was evident throughout, and it was easy to see why she has created so many award-winning quilts. She generously shared her techniques for bringing portraits to life, particularly how to add fine details with pencils and pens—most impressively the eyes, which gave the quilts a remarkable sense of realism.

It was a creative and rewarding 2 days, leaving everyone both inspired and eager to continue exploring portrait quilting.

Earlier In May, 14 ladies had a very enjoyable day with Helen Sugar Duff teaching an efficient and effective technique for stained glass appliqué . The process involved some time tracing , cutting , visoflex , freezer paper but by the end of the day there were some beautiful pieces of ‘stained glass’ ready to be finished at home by hand or machine.

A great day and a great technique . Thank you Helen!
