Royal Show Winners
A very good display of quilts is at the Royal Perth Show on this week at Claremont Showgrounds. This year the Creative Arts & Cookery Exhibit is in the Banksia Pavilion and it was a great space for the Patchwork and Quilting section. Thanks to the involvement of WAQA members, the quilts are a visual feast for quilters and the general public.
I was very impressed by the number of WAQA members winning prizes. Congratulations to Pamela Mees (1st), Kaye Watson (2nd), Sharon Brown (3rd) for their entries in the Sunflower theme category. Pat Forster (1st), Edwina Woodin (2nd) for their entries in the Traditional Quilt category. Kaye Gauci (1st), Pat Forster (2nd), Ross Ellis (3rd) for their entries in Predominantly Applique category. Kaye Gauci (1st), Janine Judge (2nd), Helen Sugars Duff (3rd) for their entries in Wall Hanging or Small Quilt Category. Apologies to those I may have missed as not all my photos worked out, particularly when zooming in to read the cards.
I did manage to get a good photo of Janine Judge’s amazing Modern Quilt entry, which won 1st Prize in that category and aslo the The Special Prize for Best Exhibit in Patchwork Quilting!!
I was there for a couple of hours yesterday and there was a lot of interest in the quilts on display and the association. Children were drawn to the sound of the sewing machine with some asking questions about why I was cutting fabric and then sewing it back together!! A big thank you to Meg for pulling together the display for the WAQA table.
There is still time to get to the show to see the wonderful quilts.
