May Sewing Meeting Awareness Event Homelessness

Next month at May Sewing Day/Night it is our ‘Awareness’ Event and this years topic is ‘Homelessness’.

This is a growing concern within Australia. The reasons for being homeless are many and varied, and the current housing crisis is adding to this at an alarming rate.

There are many organizations doing their bit to help, and we are lucky to have a speaker from Tranby United joining us at Sewing Day in May. Rhys will be accompanied by a young woman with lived experience of this to share her story. Their stories will help us to understand the plight of Perths’ Homeless people, how they came to be there and perhaps enlighten us about the many small ways that we can all help.

Tranby United WA is in Aberdeen St in Northbridge with outreach centres throughout the metro area. They provide aid and assistance to adults in need with the help of volunteers with a diverse range of skills. The centre also provides showering facilities and volunteers serve breakfast every day of the year to several hundred people in need with no funding.

One cannot overstate the comfort brought by a hot cuppa after a night sleeping rough.

We are asking our members (if you can) to please bring a donation to Sewing Day or Night of one of the following items

Any brand and any size is welcome. Between us let’s see how many cups of comfort we can give.
