Good Things Come in Threes!!

1 - Rosalie Sutton was presented with WAQA’s Golden Service Award at the Annual General Meeting last week. This award was given in recognition of Rosalie’s work with the Young Sew ‘n’ Sews group that she established in 2016 and with which she continues to be involved. Rosalie also regularly supports the pop-ups at Sewing Day and Night by introducing new techniques and tips for better sewing and is an active participant of the Contemporary Quilting Group.

2 - Julie McAllister won Best in Show at the Perth Royal Show 2026 with this stunning piece entered in the Modern Quilt category. Congratulations to all the WAQA entrants who produced the material for a spectacular display which was applauded by all who passed through the area. RASWA was very happy. A heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who assisted and manned the WAQA table, chatting with people, entertaining children and promoting our craft. 61 Quilts were displayed - most of them made by our members and many prizes were awarded to WAQA entrants, with these announced in the December Quilters Quarterly.

3 - Susan Sheath who has her first solo exhibition called ‘Pieces’ at the Tresillian Arts Centre in Nedlands. The exhibition was opened Friday night by Kate Chaney (MP) with approximately 50 quilts on display in this wonderful venue. The pieces are all amazing and range from the bright and colourful modern quilts to some delicate smaller pieces showcasing slow stitching. Susan used silk instead of cotton in a number of the quilts and that added a luminous glow that needs to be seen up close to fully appreciate the artwork. The exhibition continues until 13th November so there is time to go and have a look at Susan’s incredible work.
