Quilt Packs From Community Quilts

This morning Jan and I did a stocktake of the Community Quilts (CQ) quilt packs currently located in the storage room at Stirling Adriatic Centre.

The quilt packs are put together primarily by Cathy Gregg and Pauline O’Brien with help from members of their Glyde-In group or WAQA members at the CQ Busy Bees. Jan and I went through all the quilt packs to ensure there was a quilt top, backing fabric, wadding and binding included in each pack.

The packs were then sorted by size of quilt top, and placed in IKEA bags ready for collection at the June Sewing Day and Night or CQ Busy Bee. The final count was 40 quilt packs that ranged in size from the smallest at 40” x 40” to the largest at 59” x 83”. 5 of the quilt packs are tagged specifically for a Longarm Quilting machine.

Looking at the records for the first five months of this year, 18 WAQA members took approx 60 quilt packs from CQ to do the required quilting. One member took 21 quilts and another took 12 quilts. As you can appreciate, Community Quilts needs more help with quilting quilts. Please consider collecting a quilt pack from the CQ table the next time you attend a Sewing Day and Night. You can choose amongst the many sizes available and pick a style of quilt top that works for your quilting skills. As a bonus you can leave the binding for someone else to do!
