Beginners Working With Jelly Rolls
Two weeks ago the Beginners Group were lucky to have Kerry Moore come along to their session and run a workshop on making a quilt from a jelly roll.
There were three different patterns provided for the beginners to choose from, with lovely examples from Kerry of each including a variation on one that highlights how using different fabrics and rearranging pieces to make the block can result in such different quilts.
More than a dozen of the beginners took up the challenge and brought along a jelly roll to use. The jelly rolls were all so different that even if everyone was making the same quilt, the end result would not look alike at all.
A fairly quick decision for most was selecting which of the three patterns to use. After that, it was sewing strips together, rearranging the strips, cutting up the strips and sewing the pieces together. These steps need to be repeated until all the jelly roll strips are used and a quilt top is produced.
I’m looking forward to the next session tomorrow to see who has finished the top, or made a pile of blocks, or maybe like me made no further progress.
