Busy Times at Sewing Day and Night

Last week’s Sewing Day and Night featured the CQ Bazaar instead of Sponsor shops. The members were very generous in their purchases of fabric and other items that were available for sale. The total at the end of the night was just over $1600 which will go towards the purchase of wadding for the many quilt tops that keep coming in to Community Quilts.

It was a very busy time with the normal activities in addition to the Bazaar but an enjoyable time was had by all (the air conditioner was working!!). CQ had a new BOM, with fabric kits for members to take away and sew into a lovely block.

There were two pop-ups The first was Sheila Pye at Sewing Day and Phil Thomas at Sewing Night with easy orange peel quilt blocks. The second was Thea Williams with an Autumn themed presentation from the Library. The instructions for the bag and template can be downloaded here.

A special item at Sewing Day, was a presentation to welcome a new Appraiser.

The Challenge quilts were also on display, with members given the opportunity not only to get a close look at them, but also to cast their vote. Look forward to finding out which quilt won and if it was the one I liked the best.

The show and tell had numerous quilts related to the theme of Women & Girls in Science. Lesley did a wonderful job in providing a snippet of information on a number of famous women in Science, and then linking their scientific fields or achievements to the quilts being showcased. The quilts I saw included temperature quilts, plus quilts with a DNA strand, fractals, a robot, a Lizard and Covid. Was interesting to hear some of the quilters explain the reasons behind making those particular quilts.

As the CQ Convenor, I would like to thank everyone who helped with the CQ Bazaar and everyone who bought from the Bazaar. As a small note, there were 24 boxes of quilting fabric set up on the tables at the start of Sewing Day and by the end of Sewing Night the fabric remaining was merged into 13 boxes.
